VWO is a passive ETF built to track the FTSE emerging markets index that includes large-, mid-, and small-cap stocks, including China A-shares. It uses a sampling approach (it doesn’t have to own every single stock) to closely mimic the index’s key traits like sector weights, size exposure, and valuation metrics.
You own a big basket of stocks from developing countries around the world, not just one region or one company size. It’s like buying “the emerging markets stock market” in one fund, with a heavy market-cap tilt toward the biggest companies.
