SCUS is an actively managed ultra-short bond ETF built to generate current income while prioritizing capital preservation and liquidity.
It invests in U.S. dollar–denominated, investment-grade, short-term debt from U.S. and foreign issuers and targets an effective duration of one year or less (duration = how sensitive the bond portfolio is to interest-rate moves; lower is typically less rate-sensitive).
The portfolio can shift defensively, even up to 100% in cash or cash-like holdings during unusual markets.
You own a basket of very short-term IOUs—things like commercial paper, certificates of deposit, corporate bonds, and U.S. government-related bonds—picked by Schwab’s managers. The goal is to pay you interest while trying to keep price swings relatively small.
