XRMI is an S&P 500 exposure ETF that layers in a rules-based “collar” options overlay to target income and dampen drawdowns.
Each month it sells at-the-money (ATM) S&P 500 call options to collect premium and buys 5% out-of-the-money (OTM) S&P 500 put options for downside protection, aiming for a net credit (more premium in than out).
The trade-off is structural: the sold call tends to cap upside, while the bought put helps soften moderate declines.
You own a basket that behaves like the S&P 500, plus an insurance policy (a put) that starts helping after about a 5% drop, and you also sell a “profit cap” (a call) each month to get paid. That monthly options reset is the engine for income, but it also limits how much you can make in strong rallies.
