VTV is a passive equity ETF built to track the CRSP US Large Cap Value Index, targeting U.S. large-company stocks that screen as “value.” It owns (almost) the same stocks as the index and holds them in roughly the same weights, using a multi-factor value scoring model that’s refreshed quarterly.
You’re buying a big basket of U.S. company stocks that look “cheap” by multiple measures, not just one. It’s like owning the “value” side of the large-cap U.S. stock market in one fund.
