VPU is a passive U.S. utilities sector ETF built to track the MSCI US IMI 25/50 Utilities Index.
It aims to hold most of the same utility stocks in roughly the same market-cap weights, with issuer caps (25/50 rules) designed to keep any single company from dominating the portfolio.
The index is rebalanced quarterly, so the holdings can shift as the sector changes.
You’re buying a basket of U.S. utility companies—electric, gas, and water—plus some related power producers and energy traders. Instead of picking winners, the fund follows an index and spreads your money across many utility stocks.
