MINT is an actively managed ultra-short bond ETF designed to target higher income than a typical money market fund by holding a diversified mix of high-quality, USD-denominated short-term debt. PIMCO manages interest-rate sensitivity by generally keeping portfolio duration under 1 year (duration = how much the price tends to move when rates move), while keeping the dollar-weighted average maturity typically under 3 years.
You own a basket of short-term IOUs (bonds and other debt) mostly from investment-grade borrowers, priced in U.S. dollars. A professional manager constantly adjusts what’s in the basket to try to earn a bit more yield without taking “long bond” risk.
