FREL is a passive real estate sector ETF built to mirror the MSCI USA IMI Real Estate 25/25 Index, meaning it targets U.S. REITs and other real estate companies across large-, mid-, and small-caps.
It uses a cap-weighted approach with diversification guardrails (the “25/25” caps) to reduce single-issuer concentration.
The fund may use representative sampling, so it can track the index without holding every name.
You’re buying a basket of U.S. real estate stocks—mostly REITs that own buildings and properties (like apartments, warehouses, and data centers). Instead of owning the properties directly, you own shares of the companies that collect rent and run those properties.
