VOO is a passive ETF built to mirror the S&P 500, aiming to match the index by holding (nearly) all 500 stocks in roughly the same market-cap weights. Because the S&P 500 is committee-selected and rebalanced quarterly, your exposure is “rules-based with humans in the loop,” not a pure mechanical screen.
You own tiny slices of the biggest U.S. companies, all bundled into one fund. The biggest companies count the most, because the portfolio weights are based on company size (market value).
